Shanghai Pudong International Airport is located in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, approximately 30 kilometers from the city center. It is a 4F-class civil airport. It features a terminal with an 800,000-square-meter apron and 76 parking positions, a 50,000-square-meter cargo warehouse, and a second-phase station area covering 780,000 square meters. It is one of China’s top three gateway hubs and a key international air cargo hub in the Yangtze River Delta region. 

In May 2019, Pudong Airport installed a VTG6000 natural gas-fired condensing boiler (NOx ≤ 30mg/m3) for its pilot apartments. The VTG boiler features a three-pass design for high durability and low maintenance. Its counter current heat exchange system, coupled with a high-power burner, ensures ultra-high thermal efficiency. The heat exchanger reduces exhaust gas temperature, minimizing heat loss and quickly distributing heat throughout the apartments. Additionally, water softening ensures high-quality hot water in the apartments. Given the lack of industrial waste heat and distance from urban heat sources, the VTG boiler meets the airport’s heating and hot water needs while avoiding the cost of municipal heating infrastructure. 

The VTG boiler’s compact size (about 50% of traditional boilers) reduces the need for large boiler room infrastructure and lowers capital investment costs. With nitrogen oxide emissions under 30 mg/m3, the VTG boiler exceeds Shanghai’s stringent 2019 emission standards, eliminating the need for future retrofitting.
